I began teaching in 2008 at which time I taught Special Education Occupational English and Reading at the high school level for students who would be receiving an Occupational Diploma. I also worked with students in the Inclusion setting. I taught in this position for two years and then took a year off to complete my Master’s Degree, at which time I worked as an assistant in a middle/high school Special Education self-contained classroom where I worked with students with a range of disabilities and severity.
After my Master’s Degree was completed, I moved to Nashville, TN with my husband where I taught elementary Special Education for 5 years. I worked with students in both the Inclusion setting as well as Resource/Pull-out into my classroom.
Upon moving back to Mississippi in 2016, I worked as an elementary School Counselor for 3 years before becoming a full-time Special Education Advocate and Consultant. As a School Counselor, I was responsible for handling Child Find requests and scheduling MET meetings to discuss testing for Special Education eligibility. I also worked with classroom teachers on strategies for working with their students with special needs.
As a part of each of my roles, I have participated in extensive trainings on learning and behavior strategies, coping and adaptive skills, and partnering with families and schools.
I have worked with students with a wide-range of disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Emotional Disability, Intellectual Disability, Traumatic Brain Injury, Developmental Delay, and Specific Learning Disability.
